Meankitty Wants to Know: Just Leslie Dicken

Yesterday we interviewed Trixie, the cat who owns Leslie Dicken, and today we have some of the human's answers for you to enjoy. Let's see if we can come up with any clues in her answers that will give us ideas to suggest to Trixie how she can get what she wants from this dog-lovin' human.

1) Why did you decide to be a writer instead of a cat sanctuary owner?

My husband will not allow more than one cat. I'm still debating if I should divorce him.

[[[Meankitty Notes: Ooooooh, the picture is starting to become clear already...]]]

2) Why do you think cats are better than dogs? (Since you call yourself a writer, I trust your answer will be eloquent.)

They just are. Period. How's that for eloquent?

3) Tell me about the felines in your fiction. How often do they appear and how big a part do they play in your narratives?

Ummm...moving on....

[[[Meankitty's Note: What, are you only allowed to have one CAT in a book, too, so you're saving up?]]]

4) On the off-chance you have yet to incorporate cats into your fiction, when do you plan to rectify this egregious error and demonstration of poor writing skills?

I will in my next book. I PROMISE!

[[[Meankitty's Note: We Will Be Watching, Human Servant. Mostly that other person, but also you.]]]

5) What are your favorite works of fiction involving cats or favorite fictional cats?

Can't recall any right now...but I do love cats. I swear! (Don't hurt me.)

[[[Meankitty's Note: I've heard it told that humans can make their romantic partners forget the rest of the world. Let's blame the cat-scroogin' dude!]]]

6) Do you have any amazing, or at least humorous, real life cat stories you'd like to share?

We all thought it was humorous when my cat Trixie climbed almost all the way up the slide in our backyard... and then slid backwards back down. She also loves to bring me little items (mostly small stuffed animals that come in McDonald's Happy Meals) when she wants something. That's better than the REAL animals she will bring from outside during the summer!!

7) Multiple choice 1. What is your preference and why?
A) Long hair
B) Short hair
C) No hair
-- Note: I am not, of course, referring to the hirsute qualities of your most recent hero or heroine.

Short! Less to take care of both on and off the cat!

8) Multiple choice 2. You have a writing deadline but the cat who rules you wants some attention. Desperately. Do you:

A) Lock the cat in another room and keep working?
B) Pet the cat for a couple minutes and then toss her cruelly aside?
C) Pet the cat as long as she wants because you know it will inspire and refresh you? -- Note: If you answered anything besides C, we suggest you consider the fact you could have written a much better book if you had been inspired and refreshed instead of mean to the cat.

Um...no comment.

[[[Meankitty's Note: As long as you treat that old cat-scrooge you live with the same way. And the dog. And maybe any other animals and offspring.]]]

If you have any suggestions for Leslie and Trixie, fire away in the comments here or in the previous post!

Leslie's bio:

Latest release:
http://new.mybookstoreandmore.com/shop/product.da/beauty-tempts-the-beast
Leslie tends to obsess about the things she enjoys: writing, Gerry Butler, gardening, beading, Gerry Butler. She’s been writing since high school, when Wuthering Heights inspired her to create worlds of dark heroes, brave heroines, and stormy nights. Since then she’s written tales of history and stories of the future (as pseudonym Jordanna Kay).

When she’s not writing, gardening, or beading, Leslie can be found either at her day job or being a slave to her three children. In her dreams, she is alone on a white-sand beach with only Gerry as her cabana boy.

[[[Meankitty's Note: Betcha Gerry's not a cat-scrooge.]]]

MEOW!

Yes, it's true. My husband is not a cat person and I'm lucky to have one cat in the house. Sigh. Trixie acts like the queen enough for several cats. LOL!

Thanks for the interview, Jody!

I nearly blew tea out of my nose when I saw that picture of Leslie. Very good.

Excellent interview, by the way. Leslies, you gotta work on hubby about the number of cats. One is waaaay too few.

Leslie, I loooove your picture! Looks like you're a 'Trixie wannabe'
:-)

I'm with Liz on the cat scrooge--
it's either Him or THem.

Wurthering Heights is one of my favorite literary stories. As a result, one of my professors way back when called me an 'arch-romantic.' Your story, Beauty Tempts the Beast, sounds like it has similar dark and brooding Gothic elements, especially with that castle/mansion in the background. The excerpt on Samhain does too.

I have to have this story. I love a scarred hero.
