I have been participating in the Mavens' wacky round robin (recommended!) this week and also had the urge to research the branching story structure as it appears in today's literature. In case you like that kind of thing, here are some links to newer books that have interactive plots:
First off, "Choose Your Own Adventure" is registered term, and here is the site for the original books, currently being republished: http://www.cyoa.com/
There are two, count them, two Jane Austen themed interactive books:
http://www.amazon.com/Lost-Austen-Create-Your-Adventure/dp/1594482586
& http://www.amazon.co.uk/Being-Elizabeth-Bennet-Create-Adventure/dp/184354606X
There were a couple that seemed to be somewhat more "serious" in nature, insofar as I could determine:
http://www.amazon.com/Lifes-Lottery-Kim-Newman/dp/other-editions/0671015974/ref=dp_ed_all
http://www.amazon.com/Choose-Carey-Wallace/dp/0975856316/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199991736&sr=1-2
http://www.amazon.com/Pretty-Little-Mistakes-Do-Over-Novel/dp/0061133221/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199992547&sr=1-1 (Can't tell if this is YA)
Then there were some classic spoofy ones, full of silliness but also adult themes. I ordered the Tijuana one and it's a hoot:
http://www.amazon.com/Night-Thousand-Boyfriends-Adventure-Aventures/dp/1931686351
http://www.amazon.com/Escape-Fire-Island-Destiny-Adventure/dp/B000HT218S/ref=pd_sim_b_title_7
http://www.amazon.com/Tangle-Tijuana-Miss-Adventure-1/dp/B000H2MJ0A/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_b
http://www.amazon.com/Big-Night-Out-Adventure-Outcome/dp/0312198345/ref=pd_sim_b_title_2
http://www.amazon.com/Beauty-Queen-Blowout-Miss-Adventure/dp/B000H2MJGY/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_b
Another area in which the branching story is enjoying a little refurbishment is YA:
http://www.amazon.com/Boy-Shopping-Nia-Stephens/dp/0758219296/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199992974&sr=1-1
http://www.amazon.com/Date-Him-Dump-Campfire-Crush/dp/1599900831/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199993071&sr=1-3 (YA Series)
http://www.amazon.com/What-Everyone-Knew-Your-If/dp/0385732961/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199993149&sr=1-1 (YA Series)
http://www.amazon.com/Follow-Your-Heart-Friends-Boyfriend/dp/0439791405/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199993314&sr=1-3 (YA Series)
http://www.amazon.com/Hook-Up-Break-Love-Random/dp/0060885637/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199993606&sr=1-1 (YA Series)
And lastly, I did find some links to books that seem to be bona fide erotic stories:
http://www.amazon.com/Whatever-You-Want-Pick-Your-Own-Ending-Escapade/dp/B000C4SOQG/ref=pd_sim_b_title_2
http://www.amazon.com/Kathryn-City-Create-Erotic-Fantasy/dp/B0002Z00JY/ref=pd_sim_b_title_2
http://www.amazon.com/Classics-Professor-Create-Erotic-Fantasy/dp/B0002Z00K8/ref=pd_sim_b_title_4
http://www.amazon.com/Behind-Closed-Doors-Alina-Reyes/dp/0802135056/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199991602&sr=8-1
Here's a short article about the new breed of grown-up CYOAs: http://www.temple.edu/ispr/examples/ex03_10_22.html
Ok, I'm taking off the research hat now. I have some mangled pacifiers to photograph, courtesy of Meankitty.
Sincerely,
