On the previous post, the slave in question was writing to us because of the cat named Bug's abuse of the cat named Spider. In the following request for advice, the slave in question is writing to us for different reasons. So have at it! What do YOU advise, all you meankitties out there? And remember, as it says on my advice page at the site, we aren't vets and are under no obligation to give vet-quality advice.

Hello,
We just adopted a new kitten last night, although this kitten has been in hiding for over 24 hours now, and I’m a little concerned about the environment that this kitten came out of, being he lived with several other cats. The woman that we adopted the kitten from claims that she rescues kittens/animals, although she says that the kitten hiding is normal, although if it is, it’s the first time we’ve ever seen this. The kitten’s nose was runny, and we have some concerns, therefore would like to know whether or not we can return the kitten and obtain our money back under the right to rescind law of 3 days. I know that the right to rescind law applies to any/all except I do not know about a pet. Please advise with your thoughts about whether or not this is both normal and if we may have any recourse in returning the kitten.
Thank you,
D-Slave

Yikes. Cats hide when they're sick or when they're afraid, so either or both could be the case here. Did the woman provide you with any documentation on shots the kitten has already received? I'd find out right away if the kitten has ever been to a vet and, if so, which one, and then I'd call that vet immediately. If you can't find out for sure if the kitten has seen a vet, then I'd get him to a vet you trust right away.
If this woman is running some kind of shady operation (it sounded like you might have gotten that impression), do you really want to send this kitten back into that environment?
Oh, dearie me! You can't want to send the poor kitten back to that House of Yucky. :(
A new kitten of mine (I had no other pets at the time) hid under the bed in my guest room for almost a week before she came out to meet me. She was a very tiny thing; I set her up a "mommy box" with soft blankets, a stuffed animal, and a quietly ticking clock and placed it just under the bed. I moved her litter box and food into that room, which she crept out to use at some point, probably at night.
First, she moved into the mommy box; soon enough, she was out with me.
Many kittens coming from breeding or rescue situations have simple respiratory infections. They are very easy to treat with antibiotics and clear up quickly. You will also want to have a vet check for internal parasites; again, not a difficult condition to treat.
Please consider not only keeping the kitten and taking it to a vet, but reporting this "rescue" lady to the local humane society or chapter of the ASPCA if you think she is not caring for animals properly and safely.
Nala speaking:
I was a mature 5 years old when I was manhandled into life with TFS. Not only did I hide out completely for almost three months, I still spend most of my time hidden away, snarling in the dark recesses of below-bed or back-of-closet. Some of us meankitties never get cuddly or friendly, ever.
Deal with it.
No do not send her back. She has come out of a bad enviroment it sounds like, into a good one. Be paitent with her [c'mon you are bigger and she has no idea WHO you are] and get her to a vet to be checked out. Chances are she will come around in time...imagine if you were her.......
